Problem

  • How to change DNS Servers in Windows 10?
  • For example Google or OpenDNS Servers

Solution 1

  • Right click on the Windows Start Button
  • Advice: Use Windows Key + X
Windows Button +X Shortcut
  • Click Network connections

Network connections

  • Now you see all your Network Connections (Wi-Fi, LAN, ..)
  • Right-click your connection and click Properties

  • Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4

  • Click "Use the following DNS server addresses"
  • Insert the IP-Addresses of your DNS service

 8.8.8.8 
 8.8.4.4
  • For OpenDNS

Solution 2 (Command Prompt)

  • Open the Command Prompt as admin
  • Use following command for the first DNS IP-Address
netsh interface ip add dns name="Ethernet" addr=8.8.4.4 index=1

  • Use following command for the second DNS IP-Address
netsh interface ip add dns name="Ethernet" addr=8.8.8.8 index=2
  • Use the following command to check the DNS
ipconfig /all

Solution 3 (PowerShell)

  • Open the Windows PowerShell as Administrator
  • Use following command
Set-DnsClientServerAddress -InterfaceAlias Ethernet -ServerAddresses 8.8.8.8
